Cop among two killed in crash after driver swerves to avoid pothole

A police constable is among two men who lost their lives in motor vehicle crash along the Seaforth main road in St Thomas on Tuesday night.

Dead are 25-year-old Keron Kellyman, a constable attached to the Highway Patrol Division, and 31-year-old electrician Dwight Robinson of White Hall district in the parish.

Reports are that about 10:45 p.m., Kellyman was driving a Toyota Isis from Morant Bay towards Seaforth, while a Honda Accord was travelling in the opposite direction.

It is alleged that on reaching the vicinity of the Wyatt Housing Scheme, the driver of the Honda Accord swerved to avoid a pothole and crossed into the path of the constable's vehicle.

The two vehicles collided head-on, resulting in the policeman's car overturning and landing in a gully along the roadway.

Kellyman sustained severe facial injuries and was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m.

Robinson suffered a massive laceration extending from his forehead to his chin and right ear. He was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m.

Four other persons were injured in the crash. Two occupants of the Toyota Isis and two from the Honda Accord were taken to hospital, where they are being treated.

Police say the injured individuals are in serious but stable condition, with some undergoing surgery.

Investigations into the fatal crash are ongoing.
